Teachers in Pesisir Barat as Child Protection Drivers in Schools

Efforts to create safe, comfortable, and violence-free schools continue to be strengthened by the Pesisir Barat Government. One of these efforts is through capacity-building training for school-based Violence Prevention and Response Teams (TPPK), held over two days at SDN 75 Krui. The training, which was attended by 32 kindergarten and primary school teachers from Way Krui and Pesisir Tengah sub-districts, carried the theme “Responsive, Educative, and Solution-Oriented: Responding to Violence Against Children by TPPK Teachers.” This training is an implementation of the education ecosystem solution proposed by the Child Protection Working Group (Pokja) with full support from KREASI .

Equipping Teachers to Prevent Violence

Participants received materials on the roles and functions of TPPK, types of violence in schools, principles of child protection, and case management. The training used a participatory approach, incorporating discussions, case studies, and educational video screenings, ensuring that teachers not only understood the theory but were also trained to respond to real-life situations.

Government–School Synergy

The resource persons for the training came from both educators and government representatives, including staff from the Office of Women Empowerment, Child Protection, and Family Planning (DP3AKB) Pesisir Barat: Ade Putri, Badriah, Nining Santi Suwarni, and Zurya Nazzalal Zikri. They shared field challenges, practical solutions, and good practices in handling child protection cases.

“Schools must be places that make our children feel safe and secure. Through strengthening TPPK capacity, we hope teachers can become protection agents within their schools,” said Nining Santi Suwarni, representing the Head of DP3AKB Pesisir Barat.

This initiative also gained support from the District Education and Culture Office (Disdikbud) of Pesisir Barat.

“We welcome this initiative because it aligns with our commitment to creating child-friendly schools. Teachers are not just educators, but also guardians of children’s safety and dignity. We hope this training becomes a sustainable step toward quality education that also protects children from all forms of violence,” said Hadianca from Disdikbud Pesisir Barat.

Teachers Speak Out

The participating teachers found the training deeply beneficial.

“The materials really opened our eyes. It turns out there are many simple things we can do to prevent violence in schools, starting with how we communicate with children and how to handle cases initially,” said Rizkon.

Rahmayanti shared a similar sentiment.

“We often felt lost when dealing with violence cases. After this training, we feel more confident because we now have clear guidelines and networks we can reach out to,” she said.

Child Protection in Schools Is a Shared Responsibility

This training affirms that teachers are not only educators but also child protectors who must act quickly, accurately, and empathetically. The Pesisir Barat District Government calls on families, schools, communities, and government agencies to work together in ensuring that every child grows, learns, and plays without fear.

With this new knowledge, TPPK teams are expected to work more professionally in both preventing and handling violence cases in schools. This concrete step is part of a broader educational ecosystem movement in Pesisir Barat to create truly child-friendly schools. Pesisir Barat’s consistency in strengthening education ecosystems based on child protection demonstrates that change can begin in the classroom—by teachers, with community support. If this spirit is sustained, Pesisir Barat has the potential to become an inspirational model for other districts across Indonesia in building an education system that not only educates but also protects every child.
