KREASI Morotai Conducts Positive Parenting Training for Prospective Mentors and PATBM Members

KREASI Morotai held a district-level Positive Parenting Without Violence Training from 10–14 June 2025. The training took place at SD Negeri Unggulan 1 and brought together prospective mentors from various villages, including members of the Community-Based Integrated Child Protection (PATBM).

This training served as a transformative learning space for participants, especially parents and future parenting facilitators. Beyond providing technical knowledge, it also opened a reflective space for participants to reconsider traditional parenting methods.

One participant, Miranti, a PATBM member, shared how the training offered her a new perspective. “I’ve learned that parenting can be done positively—building effective communication without violence. This knowledge is incredibly useful, especially in daily life as a parent,” she said.

Similarly, Firna, a mother who is also active in PATBM activities, admitted the training changed her mindset in guiding her children. “I used to scold them a lot. But after this training, I’ve learned to be a more patient mother—approaching my children positively and listening to them,” she said with emotion.

One of the main goals of this training was to develop local mentors capable of supporting families in Morotai to adopt non-violent parenting practices. Participants were equipped with skills to help parents build healthy communication with their children, strengthen their children’s confidence, and introduce children’s rights from an early age.

However, challenges remain. During discussion sessions, participants revealed that in many communities across Morotai, parenting is still largely seen as the sole responsibility of mothers. The role of fathers is often overlooked and deemed non-essential. This insight serves as a crucial note for KREASI Morotai in designing approaches that are sensitive to local social and cultural values.

This training was not merely a delivery of materials—it became a space for reflection, sharing experiences, and mutual support. The learning process sparked new awareness: that parenting is not just about discipline, but about nurturing relationships based on love, respect, and healthy communication with children.

With the spirit of sharing and sustainability, the mentors developed through this training are expected to spread positive parenting practices within their communities. Because meaningful change starts at home—from how we treat our children.
