KREASI Morotai Holds Open Action Competition on Climate Change Mitigation

KREASI Morotai organized an open action competition to commemorate Indonesia Tree Planting Day on 28 November 2025. In this activity, KREASI invited primary schools (SD/MI) and early childhood education centers (PAUD/TK/RA) in Morotai to take part by producing interactive videos.

In these videos, schools were free to choose the type of action they wanted to showcase, such as climate change mitigation lessons, activities to preserve the school environment, compost-making by the school community, reforestation efforts, or climate change awareness campaigns using various tools and materials. The completed videos were then screened and presented at the Morotai Regent’s Office Hall and assessed directly by the KREASI team, the Secretary of Morotai Environmental Office, and representatives from the University of Pasifik Morotai.

The activity was met with great enthusiasm from participants. During the presentations, they brought various supporting media, ranging from teaching aids on types of waste and their decomposition time, harvests from gardening activities, to creative works made from used plastic bottles and caps—all adjusted to the content of the videos they presented.

The event also featured an engaging drama about the importance of protecting the environment, performed by elementary school students supported by KREASI Morotai. Through a simple storyline rich with moral messages, the students invited the audience to be more caring toward their surroundings.

First place was awarded to a PAUD supported by KREASI Morotai, which presented a video on climate change awareness using various tools and materials. In the video, children were introduced to the causes and handling of floods, how to plant and care for plants, evacuation routes, parts of plants, and types of waste. They also demonstrated planting vegetables and watering plants as examples of simple actions that can be done from an early age.

“We won first place thanks to teamwork at the school. All of us, including the teachers, supported one another. This was my first time presenting in front, and the support from the principal and other teachers was really helpful. Our presentation and video about the causes and handling of floods, simulations, and experiments were made possible by new knowledge and mentoring from KREASI,” said Kikik, a PAUD teacher who presented the open action climate change mitigation video.

Through this competition, KREASI Morotai hopes each school can demonstrate concrete steps in protecting the environment while introducing the importance of climate change mitigation to children from an early age. The videos produced are expected to inspire other schools and serve as evidence that change can start from the learning environment.
