In Tanggamus, Board of Patrons Save the Children Indonesia Visits KREASI Implementation

The Board of Patrons of Save the Children Indonesia conducted a visit to Tanggamus District, Lampung, on 5–7 November 2025. Several agenda items were carried out during the visit, including observing firsthand the implementation of the Program of KREASI, which has been running for around nine months in the district.

Chair of the Board of Patrons, Daniel Rembeth, together with several board members and the CEO of Save the Children, Dessy Kurwiany Ukar, observed various initiatives to improve the quality of basic education and child protection implemented in collaboration with the local government and the local implementing partner in Tanggamus.

SDN 1 Banjarmasin was one of the key locations where the delegation saw good teaching practices facilitated by KREASI. At this public primary school, established in 1981, teachers and the principal have taken part in 22 training sessions covering curriculum and assessment, teaching practices, instructional leadership, and child protection. The visit highlighted the implementation of the Catch-Up Club – a play-based remedial learning program to strengthen literacy and numeracy – as well as child-friendly classroom initiatives equipped with reading corners, teacher-made learning media, and a more engaging learning environment.

The delegation also reviewed the SULTAN (Sudut Literasi Anak/Children’s Literacy Corner) Program and the “Friday Reading” activity initiated by the school. Through reading corners in each classroom, equipped with children’s storybooks, big books, and age-appropriate thematic reading materials, students are encouraged to make reading part of their daily routine. Meanwhile, the Friday Reading activity combines teacher storytelling sessions with independent reading by students, creating a more enjoyable and interactive learning atmosphere. These initiatives illustrate how the training provided by KREASI has translated into tangible change in the classroom.

After visiting the school, the delegation continued to the Nusantara Library in Pekon Banjarmasin, which has been developed as a “Literacy Village” (Pekon Literasi). Through a series of activities from April to October 2025, KREASI facilitated PDIA (Problem-Driven Iterative Adaptation) workshops, the issuance of a village decree appointing library management, training for volunteers and teachers, as well as the development of a workplan that includes interactive literacy sessions twice a week for early childhood students and Grade 3 primary students. The inauguration of a reading corner, the provision of 127 children’s books, and support from the Provincial Teacher and Education Personnel Training Centre (BGTK) Lampung marked the transformation of the village library into a community-based literacy hub.

The visit concluded with a courtesy call to the Regent of Tanggamus in Talang Padang. During the meeting, the Tanggamus Government and Save the Children reaffirmed their partnership in strengthening the literacy movement and child protection efforts. The Regent also expressed appreciation for KREASI’s presence and contribution through various teacher training activities, the strengthening of the literacy ecosystem, and the development of village-based programs that directly respond to community needs.
