KREASI Halmahera Utara Strengthens Literacy and Numeracy Strategies Through Technical Workshop in Ternate

KREASI Halmahera Utara, implemented by Wahana Visi Indonesia, held a Technical Workshop (Bimtek) on Strategic Planning for Literacy and Numeracy from 9–12 September 2025 in Ternate.

The event featured a range of speakers, including consultants from Inspirasi Negeri, Tira Masesa Milano, as well as representatives from Bappeda Provinsi Maluku Utara, BPMP Maluku Utara, and the Directorate General of Treasury Regional Office of Maluku Utara. Participants came from various sectors, including the Ministry of Religious Affairs (Kemenag) of Provinsi Maluku Utara and the Kemenag Office of Halmahera Utara, as well as Regional Government Agencies of Halmahera Utara such as Bappeda, Department of Education and Culture, DP3AKB, Library Service, and others.

In his remarks, Head of the Islamic Education Division at the Kanwil Kemenag Provinsi Maluku Utara, Yamin Latief Tjokra, stated that KREASI brings a new perspective to improving education quality, particularly in the areas of literacy and numeracy.

“Literacy and numeracy are not just about reading and counting—they are the foundation for children to compete, innovate, and build their future. What WVI is doing through KREASI aligns closely with the spirit of GALATAMA (Gerakan Literasi Madrasah) that we are promoting,” he said.

He also emphasized the importance of cross-sector collaboration in supporting education as a shared responsibility. “This forum must become a space for formulating concrete steps. We cannot stop at discourse—we must take action together to create a generation that is intelligent, virtuous, and ready to face the challenges of the time,” he added.

Echoing that, Head of Badan Kesbangpol Halmahera Utara, Jhon Anwar Kabalmai, who represented the Regent of Halmahera Utara, expressed appreciation for KREASI’s contribution in strengthening human resources in the region.

“This workshop is a strategic step to ensure that literacy and numeracy become the foundation of human development. Collaboration like this will accelerate the emergence of a resilient generation ready to meet global challenges,” he said.

Meanwhile, Program Manager of KREASI Halmahera Utara, Rany Monika Purba, emphasized that the workshop is an important part of the literacy and numeracy integration strategy in regional education planning.

“We hope this workshop enables stakeholders to formulate a joint strategy that is realistic, applicable, and impactful for improving the quality of children’s education in Halmahera Utara,” she said.

The three-day event ran productively and collaboratively—from identifying key issues, highlighting good practices, to creating a shared plan between local government and development partners to accelerate improvements in children’s literacy and numeracy in Halmahera Utara.
