Chairperson of TP PKK Pesisir Barat Supports Strengthening GEDSI for Education Stakeholders

KREASI Pesisir Barat organized a Capacity Building on Gender Equality, Disability, and Social Inclusion (GEDSI) for Inclusive Education on 6-7 August 2025, involving 25 participants from local government, school supervisors, and other education stakeholders. The activity aimed to strengthen child-friendly learning strategies for all children in Pesisir Barat.

Chairperson of TP PKK (Tim Penggerak Pemberdayaan dan Kesejahteraan Keluarga/the Family Welfare Empowerment Team) Pesisir Barat, Dian Hardiyanti Dedi, in her remarks highlighted the importance of GEDSI approaches in advancing education in Pesisir Barat.

“Through the GEDSI approach, we can provide equal access to all students regardless of gender, disability, or social background,” said Dian.

This workshop marked the first occasion for education stakeholders in Pesisir Barat to gain an in-depth understanding of GEDSI in support of inclusive education.

On the first day, Project Manager of the INKLUSI Program at PKBI DIY, Ramadhani Kemal, as the resource person, presented on gender equality, disability, and social inclusion, particularly in the education sector. On the second day, participants were guided to understand student profiles, as well as regulations and the implementation of inclusive education.

“Inclusive education is not only about access to learning, but also about respecting identity and giving space for all children to have a voice. Without this, inequality will persist and vulnerable groups will remain unheard. That is why it is important to understand GEDSI,” Kemal emphasized.

Beyond being a learning platform, the workshop also facilitated a cross-sector dialogue forum. Participants discussed field challenges, shared experiences, and developed follow-up action plans to strengthen coordination and collaboration.

It is hoped that the two-day training will encourage more equitable and inclusive teaching practices tailored to the needs of children from diverse backgrounds by policymakers in Pesisir Barat.

Furthermore, it is expected that a joint commitment will emerge between the local government and education partners to pave the way for an inclusive education ecosystem in Pesisir Barat—where every child can enjoy quality education services without discrimination.
