Three Villages in Nias Selatan Ready to Form PATBM Groups

KREASI Nias Selatan held a Workshop on the Activation of Community-Based Child Protection (PATBM). This activity took place over two days, on 16 and 17 September 2025, with the aim of preparing the formation of PATBM groups at the village level.

The workshop was attended by 18 participants who were representatives from three villages. Each village—Hilisataro Nandisa, Hilionaha, and Bawomaenamolo—sent 6 people to take part in this training.

The workshop sessions were delivered by speakers from various relevant agencies, such as the Office of Population Control, Family Planning, Women’s Empowerment, and Child Protection (DP2KBP3A); the Regional Development Planning, Research, and Innovation Agency (BAPPERIDA); and the Office of Community and Village Empowerment (PMD) of Nias Selatan.

The materials presented included an introduction to PATBM, procedures for forming the organizational structure and drafting a work plan, identification of types and forms of violence against children, protection mechanisms, prevention strategies, and discussions on funding sources including advocacy for village budget (APBDes) allocation for PATBM.

During the discussion sessions, participants actively shared experiences and provided perspectives on child protection cases that had occurred in their villages. They also discussed follow-up actions on several cases that remain unresolved.

The workshop was designed to equip village representatives with practical knowledge and skills. Participants not only received theoretical knowledge but were also invited to draft an initial management structure and work plan tailored to the conditions in each village. This technical preparation is important so that the PATBM units formed can operate effectively.

One participant shared their hopes regarding the formation of PATBM:

“Our hope is that in every village across Indonesia there is a KREASI partner, and that PATBM can soon be formed in all villages in Nias Selatan,” said one of the workshop participants.

With the knowledge gained, village representatives are expected to promptly follow up on the results of the workshop by forming a core team, conducting outreach to all village residents, and drafting a systematic work program. Going forward, these three villages can become models for other villages in Nias Selatan in efforts to prevent and handle cases of violence against children.
